Yes, WebCam Monitor can capture photos from your webcam and upload to a FTP server. Add your camera in WebCam Monitor and set ‘Take Photo’, ‘Upload Media Files’ actions from Quick Access. Select at regular intervals option and set it for 1 minute. You will also need to create a FTP connection profile by entering all the details required to connect to FTP server such as IP address, user name, password and port. Once you configure the FTP connection profile details, you are ready for taking the photo from webcam and saving it on the FTP server. Click on the ‘Start Monitoring’ button on Quick Access, and the photo will be taken every minute and uploaded to the FTP server. You can run WebCam Monitor in hidden mode. In hidden mode WebCam Monitor will not be visible on the screen, task bar or notification area. To toggle WebCam Monitor between hidden mode and displaying on your screen, configure the keyboard short cut keys for hidden mode from the Settings. [image: General_Settings.png] Add your webcam and set it for motion detection monitoring with recording action, then use your short cut keys to place it in hidden mode. When the roommate is in the room, WebCam Monitor will start recording in background without letting anyone know that it is recording.

Yes, you can easily set up WebCam Monitor for keeping a watch on your loved ones. In your case, I think you should use the Email notifications with motion detection. The email notification will let you know when there is any movement, and also contain a photo of the movement. Please refer to this article for more details on Email notifications with photos: https://www.deskshare.com/resources/articles/wcm_SecurityAlertGetEmailNotificationWithPhotos.aspx

Quick Access in WebCam Monitor allows you to quickly update actions to perform on motion detection or at regular intervals while monitoring. When you update any settings on quick access it gets applied to the selected camera and not for all the cameras. You can configure the settings for each camera separately. Just select the respective camera from Quick Access and update the actions as you would like. Learn more about Quick Access.

In WebCam Monitor you can set the time to continue recording for some seconds after the most recent motion detection event. Set this time from the ‘Video Recording Settings’ window. [image: Video_Recording_Settings.png] Select the time from 10 seconds to a maximum of 60 seconds. When motion is detected, recording will continue for the time you have selected as long as no new motion detection event occurs within the selected time. If any new motion event occurs within the selected time then recording will continue for the specified time from that point. This will make sure that no motion events are missed in recording. You can have different names for your cameras and the images captured from respective cameras. Here is how to do this in WebCam Monitor: From photo settings, change the image file name. Uncheck the 'Use camera name' check box. [image: Photo_Settings.png] Enter the file name prefix you would like. WebCam Monitor allows you to select a video quality. You can set the video quality in the 'Video Recording Settings' form as shown below: [image: Video_Recording_Settings.png] By default, your videos are recorded at a bit rate of 700 kbps. The quality of recording depends on the bit rate you select. High bit rates result in clear and sharp recordings, but large file sizes. Low bit rates give small file size recordings, but the quality may be reduced. Use high bit rates with high resolution cameras and high frame rates. When you have a low-resolution camera and low frame rates, using lower bit rates will give acceptable recordings while saving a lot of disk space.

You can easily set these actions in WebCam Monitor. You have to create two different schedules to perform the actions on your work schedule. While you are at home, add a schedule to perform only video recording by selecting the 'Video Recording' option on Add Schedule dialog. When you are at work, create another schedule and select 'Monitoring Actions selected in camera settings' on Add Schedule dialog. So whatever the actions you have configured in actions tab like email notification, and FTP upload will be performed. Here is a sample: [image: AddSchedule.png]
